Licensing and Redistribution
All installations of HyperNews must include a reference to http://www.hypernews.org/ that is
visible to all users of the system. Such reference may appear on the
user instructions, the membership form, the login form, on every forum
page, or in some other prominant place that users will see regularly and
can find if they so desire. Modifications of the HyperNews source code
must not remove the license and copyright notice and the notice of where
to get our free distribution. We depend on this minimal form of free
advertising to continue development of the system.
At this time, you are licensed to copy, install, and use this version of
HyperNews with no financial obligation to HyperNews.org or NCSA. You
may even charge for access to your HyperNews services. Also, no
royalty is due in the following situations:
- Redistribution of an unmodified copy of HyperNews, whether you
charge or not - you would simply be providing a replica of our free
distribution. Thus CD-ROMs may include an unmodified copy of HyperNews.
- Redistribution of a modified version of HyperNews, whether you
charge or not, as long as you have made your modifications available
to us for free to include in our distribution if we choose to do so.
In all cases, if you distribute a copy of HyperNews, you must notify us
or post a public announcement in an appropriate forum telling us
the details of your distribution of HyperNews.
If you are interested in selling your version of HyperNews with
proprietary modifications, then we ask for a royalty. Please write to
us (liberte@hypernews.org) for details.
