It is quite clear that Rome teaches salvation EITHER THROUGH HER DOORS or THROUGH CONSCIENCE in contradiction to what the bible teaches - salvation is through faith alone in Christ alone.
The evidence presented to us by anti-Protestant Mr Tan demonstrates that Rome has gone apostate for a very long time now. Rome's claims, when tested against Scriptures, have been found to be erroneous over and over again. Just one more point. It doesn't hurt us nor does it matter to us whether Rome regards us, by way of concession, to be saved. It seems to me that Rome is aware of the silliness of the position she has taken on the "no salvation outside Rome" issue. And to save her reputation, she now explains that although she is still the mother Church, the one true Church, we may still be saved outside of her and this is because we are "invincibly ignorant" of her true status. Now, this is a very good way to deflect any objections. It satisfies everyone. Look, Rome says, we are still the only true Church but you can be saved even though you oppose us like mad. It's just that you are ignorant of our true status. You are okay even though you are outside of our communion but you are sort-of like having only half the full blessing of being a Christian. This is almost an irrefutable position! It is like the pu-dao-ong (the never-falling-man) - no matter how you beat it, it bounces back. You just can't hit it down. The problems with this position are first, ANY DENOMINATION can take this position and second, strange that the bible does not mention one iota about submission to Rome especially since without her, we cannot be saved. On the first point, if the Greek Orthodox Church, claiming Andrew to be their founder, says the same thing as Rome, why should we take either of their word? Roman Catholics provide no biblical or historical evidences to substantiate their claims. Sure, they TRY to provide evidence but as we have seen in this board, every one of them cannot hold water! On the second point, contrast this with the Gospel. In every one of NT book, the Gospel is given PRIME PROMINENCE and it is clear that the writers strove to ensure that their readers put first thing first which is the GOSPEL. Be it Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Peter, Paul or James - to them, it was paramount that the GOSPEL be preached because they knew that without it, men would not be saved. But when it came to "no salvation outside Rome"- not a word is mentioned. Even in the Church Fathers' writing, there is not a word that says salvation is through the doors of Rome, through her sacraments, through her penances and absolution. Nope. Nothing. Zero. Now, doesn't it make you wonder that something as important as this is not mentioned at all for the first 1000 years? Rome is bankrupt historically! Christopher.
