Account of a passerby on Maundy Thursday :

"I was walking past a Roman Catholic church along Victoria Street, Singapore. It was about 0930 in the evening and bright lights in that Church attracted me as I saw many people inside and outside of the building itself. My curiosity drew me into the church and to my amazement, I found many people kneeling (some at the pews) while the others on the floor (as it was quite packed then). One similarities among them is that they all faced one single direction and as I gaze toward that direction, a small white box of the size of a Key Box we use at homes being placed on a high position. On that box was a cross engraved on it, a key hole is what surprises me! That box, from what i can see is a box that has a door and you can actually close and lock it up. Two altar boys kneeling on each side also facing the white box as if in deep worship. The platform in which the box is placed is decorated nicely with white lilies and big candles and the platform skinned with golden and white clothes. Bright spotlights shines towards the platform and make the entire scene an awesome one. People (mostly catholics) kneel before this white box in deep reverence and worship. Several invocations made to Jesus were recited. From what i heard, this whole event is what RCs call the 'Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament" and I found out that Communion Wafers were actually removed from its usual resting place and being placed into the White Box (called Tabernacle) and locked up. RCs believed that the Communion Wafers (Hosts) contained the True Presence of the Lord Jesus Christ in Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity and that is why the greay worship they offered towards the Tabernacle as if God is really dwelling there......"

Now, here comes my question. As far as I understand from Scripture, when our Lord Jesus died on the cross, the curtains of the Temple (Tabernacle) was torn apart from top to bottom. Thus making the Temple worship of the Jews invalid and not necessary anymore because in Christ, God reconciled Man unto Himself. Also, God forbade us to worship Him using any representatives like statues, images and i believed it includes also the Wafers. What is all these adoration offered to the Host? Does God allow such practices when in the light of His Word is of contradiction?
