The way you end your post implies more than your just submitting this article as food for thought. Of course every believer has the right to examine what scripture say for themselves, like what Anonymous mentioned. However anything that's contrary in their own church practices to scriptures, they should bring it up themselves to their own church leaders, rather than to pass their complains, that something is not quite right with their own church, to those outside of their own church, who will have no proper understanding of how that particular church has derived its particular application from scriptures. Each church may have different approaches as to how to apply the same scriptures for themselves. For example, the way a worship service is conducted. Some churches believe in having modern music to be relevant for the present generations but others may repelled and complain of keeping up with the latest fads. The older generations of christians would loved hymns but the new??? They couldn't appreciate the somber music having never heard that genre of music all their lives and may dread church instead. What about doctrinal differences to consider before telling every church to get straighten to the NT model. Take my own denomination for example. I'm charismatic and i agree many churches are not NT in expression not just in operations but also in spiritual stature. (How many churches move in the power of the Holy Spirit that you find in the Book of Acts?) But how do you expect the noncharismatic denominations to apply 1 Cor 14 where prophesying, messages in tongues with the interpretations(not the believers' own speaking in tongues to God)and prophetic relevations are encouraged in a worship service? The church will first have to believe and accept the doctrine of being baptised in the Holy Spirit and have the correct teaching concerning how the gifts of the Holy Spirit are manifested. Then the participation of the congregation will be truly NT. Else its just letting any Tom, Dick or Harry in the congregation stand up to preach & teach too instead of just the ordained Pastor. How to decide who's matured enough to take the pulpit? What will you get in such services? Or do you want Q & A sessions that are being practised in cell groups, also in public worship meetings? You'll could well be ending up with having a dissenters' meetings instead. That's not edification but destruction for the Church. Without understanding the differences in church dogmas, you'll be creating strife in the Body of Christ. Anybody who is not happy with their own church for even some personal reasons will start looking elsewhere and got dissillusioned when they discover the next few churches are still not NT yet either, so where to go in the end? Where will the Church be heading towards? People who are unhappy with their own church pastors eg will not pay attention anymore in services and it affects the pastors too. The spiritual atmosphere of the church can affect the worship and delivery of God's word too. Worship teams and preachers would understand what i'm trying to say here. That's why constant prayers and intercession for the Church is necessaary. Isn't this taught by Paul for christians to pray unceasingly? Not just for our rulers but also for the Church. Paul sets the example himself. Eph 1, Phi 1, Col 1, 1 Thess 1. Asking God for wisdom concerning what He is wanting us to do for His Church is much more needed than just Bible knowledge.
