Why? So that anyone who has an interest in the Word of God like the some of the people of Berea described in Acts 17 will have an opportunity to search the Scriptures to see what God said about these matters.
The Bible describes the people of Berea as being “more noble than those in Thessalonica.” Why? Because they “received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so” (Acts 17:11-12). The Berean spirit has three attributes: 1) a readiness to hear what Paul had to say about God; 2) a cautious skepticism of Paul as a fallible messenger; and 3) a high regard for the Scriptures as the ultimate arbiter of Truth. These attributes worked together to propel them into their own careful examination of the Word of God.
