Your responses seem to convey the impression that because you have experienced or seen the abuses and carnal practices of churches that did not stick to biblical patterns, you dismiss the biblical teachings altogether. ++What kind of biblical teaching do you think I am dismissing? Again, lest you have the common notion that anyone who speaks negatively about the IC suffers from a bitter spirit, I want to say that you can lay that notion to rest as far as I am concerned. For example, you stated "Yet if asked to picture the church, the pastor ranks top on the org chart. In reality the pastor becomes the functional head whereas Christ becomes the nominal head (in name and theology only). And when people keep saying “ask the pastor”, “get pastor approval”, “the pastor decide”, that is enough to tell you who they think is in charge." This is in reality putting our experiences above scripture, using them to judge scripture. ++This is to tell you that our practice does not square with our theology. This is an instance whereby our experience is found wanting according to Scripture. So I am not putting experiences above Scripture, but saying that Scriptures do not support many of our practices. Name us one command or injuction of God that sinful men have not abused. ++Hope that is not your way of saying that all is well with Zion since almost everything in Scripture has been misused by men. Perhaps when you are ready, you should seek a biblically-based church. ++That’s what I am presently doing together with a few others, meeting in the simplicity of an organic expression of the church that meets in a house. |
