My contention is that the early christians met in few large houses rather than the hundreds of small houses that you're trying to build your house church theory on.

++Substantiate your point with references please. If not then I take it that you are just smoking.

Also all letters of the Apostle Paul were written to the Church of that city as he addressed them as singular.

++That was because he saw the church as a united whole, not a fragmented many. And it still does not negate the fact that there are many house churches in one city.

He never addressed any house church in particular in any city. The letter Paul wrote to Philemon....is a personal letter to Philemon. Paul just add in greetings to the church in his house that's all. It's not written to address about issues concerning the church meeting in his house.

++The letter to Philemon refutes your point, no matter how you desperately try to belittle it. The fact is that the letter was to be read to the house church too, otherwise why would Paul greet them? Let's see how you try to wriggle out of this one.

What has Gauis in John's epistle got to do with the Gauis in Romans? Can't there be more than one Gaius just as there can be more than one Simon or Joseph or James?

++Then prove your case. It can just as well be that they are one and the same.
