Which verse says the Lord's Supper is the central theme for which the christians gather? ++So here are some verses for you to swallow. Acts 2:46. And day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart, Acts 20:7. And on the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread, Paul began talking to them, intending to depart the next day, and he prolonged his message until midnight. 1 Cor 11:20. Therefore when you meet together, it is not to eat the Lord's Supper, Now think with me, does any of the above verses make sense in the context of the IC today where you have a token snack and the central person is the pastor and his sermon? Which verse says we cannot have worship in a large gathering of believers? ++Which of my posting says we cannot have large gatherings? Show me. I have ALWAYS said that larger gatherings were the exceptions rather than the norms. Which verse says we should only restrict ourselves to the format of service (is there one laid down in scriptures?) of the early christians? ++Which verse in the Bible says that there is such a thing as a Sunday service? I have said umpteen times that there is no such thing as a Sunday service in the early church. They did not come together to attend a service, they gathered together to share life. We only know what they did by their activities but is there a piece of lithurgy that you can find that says the service have to be around the Lord's Supper and then you can justify your housechurch theory. ++The early church also have no formalised liturgy. You want to know how a church meeting looks like? Here’s how Paul would want it to be like, 1 Cor 14:26. What is the outcome then, brethren? When you assemble, each one has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification. Reputable commentaries and references all attest to the same thing. Does that sounds like what goes on in the services today? Only someone with a twisted view of reality would answer “yes”. I don’t need to justify the house church theory. I did not make it up, it’s there in the Scriptures if you read it properly and correctly WITHOUT importing present day notions of doing church into the texts. You can also ask your pastor how the early church met and what were their distinctive traits. Or you can read up church history books to find it out. But let’s not waste each other’s time if you are not going to do your own homework. |
