Doctrines of Protestant are actually sub-sets of doctrines of RC in my opinion. In other words,
Protestant Bible + .... = RC Bible
Protestant doctrine of salvation + .....= RC doctrine of salvation
Protestant doctrine of Trinity + .... = RC doctrine of Trinity-plus.
If doctrine of salvation is of paramount importance, then I would say a RC believer claiming the promises of Jesus Christ is saved.
All the RC additions to the Protestant doctrines are not necessary and are found to contradict what the Bible says. This is the crux of the problem but they aren't important at all.
The apparent disagreement between RC and Protestant is different from that of a cult. A cult is so defined when its doctrine of salvation is so different from that taught in the Bible - where the founder is the WAY and not Jesus Christ.
