Hello Protestant,
I fully agree with you that when we speak to Roman Catholics, the first, second, third,... and last thing must be the true biblical Gospel of Free Grace. When we are distracted and forced to digress, we must remember this and bring the discussion back to the Gospel. The only problem is when Roman Catholics propagate their heresies on this board. They quite blatantly claim that theirs is the only true Church; that without the RCC, you cannot find salvation, that the bible alone is insufficient as authority, that you can and should invoke the dead saints to pray for you. These, far from my imagination, litter the board. In face of such propaganda (mind you, they don't just make a statement or two, they purport to provide historical and exegetical evidences) what do you suggest Protestants do? Do you think it is wise to not rebut or say a word of all these extrabiblical doctrines and just stick to sola fide? If a Protestant reads all that propaganda and finds his faith shaken, even though this is supposed to be a Protestant forum, don't you think we have a responsibility towards him too? Please do not take this the wrong way. I understand your motivation and even feeling. I have been in that kind of situation where I wish more peace prevail and more unity. But only for a minute. Then I remember the reality - there are those who capitalise on such opportunities to convert Protestants to Roman Catholicism. I'd like to hear your suggestion. Regards, Christopher
