The drinking of "wine" could be a stumbling block and the Apostle Paul enjoins abstinence in this respect, as in others, so as to avoid giving an occasion of stumbling to a brother, Rom_14:21. Contrast 1_Tim_5:23, which has an entirely different connection. The word is used metaphorically. Not to advocate drinking of wine.

Can I say that you are being extra biblical for claiming that wine is not totally forbidden in scriptures? by Yesuthass, 2001, Apr 28
My position is wine is fine, but no abuse. You want to read into the Bible prohibitions that do not exist by edmund, 2001, Apr 28
