I apologise too, for sounding upset.
I have been reading Roman Catholics, and how they always try to force extra-biblical standards of living as important to salvation. And sometimes, their thickheadedness really gets me. I apologise to you my friend, unreservedly for being upset without good reason. What you have said is certainly not in the same category. I can see your good position in not wanting Christians to be drunk. Your example of the US and even in NZ where I live, stands true, that many cannot handle alcohol. However, what I am concerned is the reading into Scripture that is not there. This is a slippery slope. IF we draw the line as wine, others can redraw it at other foods and pastimes. Where then do we end? It complicates and restrict, rather than edify. That is my main trust. If I was dining with a Christian, and he is young, and thinks wine is bad, I will not drink. If he is a strong Christian, I will ask his reason for not drinking, and ask if it will stumble him if I do. If yes, I will not drink. If no, then we both agree we have freedom in Christ. If I get drunk (and I make it a point never to), I stand in judgement of Christ. That is my position. Regards in Christ Edmund
