Dear Friend
The unfathomable God sometimes has to come down to our level when conveying truth too deep for our puny minds to comprehend. The orthodox have always believed the impassivity of God, that is, He has no passion or emotion like human beings. There is a danger of than portraying Him as insensitive or mechanical which we must be careful to avoid. The 'emotions' and physical characteristics used to describe God in the Bible are anthropopathisms and anthropomorphisms. Can you imagine a God who if He can laugh in derision, can also weep at the wickedness of men. Will He be depressed by the increasing wickedness despite His benevolence? He cannot be God if He is influenced by external factors, for God is unchangeable and unchanging. Jesus wept but He wept as the God-man, not as God.
