"God is spirit and has no bodily form but He uses human language to reveal something of Himself to us. Does He have eyes? We are not even to imagine that He has physical characteristics, else that would be idolatry."

Yes, God has no physical attributes but He does see, doesn't He? He has no physical form but 'the anthropomorphic and anthropopathic representations of God in scripture while must be interpreted so as not to militate agst the pure spirituality and holiness of God, can hardly be justified except on the assumptions that the Being to Whom they apply is a real person, with personal attributes even though it be without human limitations' (quotation from L. Berkhof)

"So also, when it is said that He is grieved or repented or laughed. These convey in part something of His holiness and abhorrence at sin etc. He is immutable, that is, He is not subject to change. If He is subject to change and external factors, He would not be perfect. We change because we are imperfect."

Immutability does not mean immobility. 'The Scripture teaach the immutability of God. James says that He is the Father of lights , with Whom there is no variableness, neither shadow of turning, (Jas 1:17)...But then how shall we harmonize the scriptures that say God does not repent ( eg Nu 23:19; 1 Sam 15:29; Ps 110:4) with such scriptures that represent Him as repenting ( eg Gen 6:6; Ex 32:14; 2 Sam 24:16)? In this way God's immutability is not like that of a stone that does not respond to changes around it but like that of the column of mercury which rises and falls according as the temperature changes. His immutability consists in His always doing the right and in adapting the treatment of His creatures to the variations in their character and conduct.' (quote from Thiessen)
