Dear Friend

We are not given much light on the visions that were seen and we have to content ourselves with the fact that the secret things of God belong to Him alone.

Have you ever thought about the normal every day sights that we see? What are they? Are they not merely electrical impulses generated by our brains when the images that fall onto the retina are somehow transformed via neurons and axons? How do we know what we are seeing is real? How do we know that the objects we touch are real, because they again are sensations our nerve endings tell us. That is why those who are under the influence of drugs, for example, really believe they 'see' and 'hear' things. Maybe there are some cross wiring in the brain during those times. It is much better and safer to walk by faith and not by sight.

Visions, like signs and wonders, ceased with the Apostolic age. Clear-headed Christian men have always believed this. There simply is no place for them, now that we have the completed Bible. All that is required for us to know and believe is stated in the Bible; what need is there of visions? How does seeing a vision help you in becoming holier? We grow in holiness as we become more and more obedient to God's commandments. Do visions increase faith? Faith come from hearing the word of God. Visions are for those whose itchy ears are not satisfied with the plain word of God and seek thrills for their carnal minds. There is a famine, as you know, a famine of hearing the word of God.

Please do get hold of a copy of BB Warfield's Counterfeit Miracles published by the banner of Truth Trust.

God does guide His people, as He has promised. But He now uses ordinary means, like some providential closing of certain avenues, advice from friends, a strong impression of a certain bible passage that comes to mind etc.

P.S. Yes, the email at protestant.com is now defunct.

Cordial regards
