Enjoy... But remember

Hi Edmund:
Getting a bit quiet here lately. Oh, it isn't Tg Pagar, it's Maxwell. And yes, all the stores you mentioned are still there. With rentals up for review after 6 months, don't know if we can still get 10c DIY "hum cheem peng" though. >>>Does this not mean that "one has to believe before one can see?"<<< I've always been very skeptical about this "believe first" thing. Once you believe, you can "see" anything. Reminds me of those NS days when some ghost-believing buddies will swear heaven and earth that they have "seen" ghosts but non-believers like myself never do, even when they bring us to the places where the ghosts supposedly like to hang-out. I don't think this is how science works. Science tries to explain things that happen and once a theory is formulated, further evidences are gathered and tests are conducted to see if the theory stands or falls. Evidences are evidences and there is no need to believe before one can see the evidences. In fact, if one is to adopt a state of belief, it may actually prevent him from "seeing" evidences that contradicts that belief, ie. he becomes biased. So in the context of our discussion, multiple species and humankind are "things that have happened". Science tries to find a theory to explain how these things happened. So far, the theory of evolution is the only one recognized by science to be the best explanation. Next comes the gathering of more evidences to support or refute this theory. I have no doubt that anyone who can find evidence to debunk Darwin WILL do so if he manage to find any. A Nobel Prize surely awaits this individual. But it's been 150 years already and so far, all the evidence seems to support evolution. Btw, two latest articles are of interest. First one is about the reproduction in a lab of self-replicating RNAs via test-tube evolution. Second is about NASA's studies of the dying Linear comet that supports the theory that the first organic life is formed in the vastness of space, survived re-entry and seeded here, together with all the waters on this planet. Regards.
