As far as I am concerned to be Anglican means to subscirbe to the historical faith as received by the Anglican Church and enshrined in the Book of Common Prayer and the Thirty-nine Articles of Religion found in the same. Article XXII of the 39 Articles says:- Of Purgatory "The Romish Doctrine concerning Purgatory, Pardons, Worshipping, and Adoration, as well of Images as of Reliques, and also invocation of Saints, is a fond thing vainly invented, and grounded upon no warranty of Scripture, but rather repugnant to the Word of God." That we go through purgatory means Christ's sacrifice is not sufficeint for our atonement and I therefore consider Jason's view as a serious error. Wonder where he learned such doctrines from? I doubt it is from St Andrew's Cathedral and it is certainly not in accordance with the Book of Common Prayer. Perhaps it is time for the Anglicans here to get back to the Book of Common Prayer and our historical faith instead of flirting around with strange and divers doctrines. |
