Yes Ive returned to see what you all think of my experience, if you all do the same thing (if so, then Im out of here for good). These people were extremely well organised in their contacts with me (ie I have received unsolicited emails, phone calls etc) to the point of militant. Quite frankly, Im scared out of my wits and am now fearful to answer my door, phone in case they are out there.
What troubles me, inter alia, is they keep talking down all the other Christian churches (you all have the same message so why rubbish one other) and I have always left their company more confused than ever and with a very eerie feeling I take days to shake off. They even claim that 5 yr olds in their church can speak in tongues and therefore, I should too and since I resist, I must be having deep-rooted problems and that I am searching for help and must tell them why I search. Having a "conversation" with them is like listening to a Christian tape recorder gone wayang - repetitive, excessive quoting of Scriptures applied absolutely to every situation. Not all non-Christians are lonely, have deep psychological needs, are desperate etc etc. Most of us are quite well balanced, intelligent, secure people...really. This rude, intrusive questioning and demands to know instantly why I resist speaking in tongues right there and then does not reflect concern. I think they are under tremendous pressure to find converts so it suggests to me that my soul is less important to them than their statistics. Taking your comment on face value, Edmund, I think I would be more comfortable with your approach and pity I cant take up your offer. Yes, I have questions but I think after this experience, I will let it rest a while and I will never again respond to this sort of invitation. Looked so benign but man, its awful, awful, AWFUL !!!
