Thank you for sharing your plight....

It really refreshing to hear from you your reaction. As Christians, may I just say sorry for the way we "man-handled" you. Actually, if you ask most of us, if we are honest with ourselves, many of us would tell you that the step towards "accepting Christ" wasn't a breeze.

Like you, I, too was so very reluctant to go to church because I feared that these people would never stop hounding me after I give them my name and telephone no. In fact, I remember debating whether to go to such groups meetings and would mostly turn these invitations down at the last minute because of these persistent people.

Actually, the issue isn't so much that these people are persistent. Persistence can be a good thing, because it does show their concern. It is usually because many of these people seem to violate the comfortable boundaries that you have built up for yourself.

The funny thing is that after being part of the body of Christ, we tend to forget what it is like to go be brought into a "strange" place where everybody is singing (be it solemnly or swinging their hands around), people closing their eyes and praying (solemnly, quietly, or in some strange cacophonous sound) and sometimes, they may even all want to shake your hand or lay hands to pray for you.

However, I hope that you will look beyond these people and their behaviour and look for the one whom has infected them. His name is Jesus.. These people might not be very "marketable" reasons to go seek Jesus, but their exuberance should be closely examined. Whatever they "bought" surely made a great impact. My only advice to you is that when you finally become one of us, remember to be kind to "pre-believers" and not pound on them. Let me tell you now that it will not be easy...

The only parallel to this phenomenon that I can think of is Having Kids. You know how dads and moms love bugging newly weds to have children... almost as if they are stuck with these noisy brats and wish you the same fate. Oh how you will get earfuls about how good it is to have kids.

Then when you finally have your very own children, you find yourself telling those close friends of yours the very thing that use to repulse you, "you should have kids quickly".

Well, may the LORD bless you with gentle and understanding friends and many kids....

Blessings
