I have read the spirited exchange between Horton and Sungenis, which is pretty much representative of Protestant and Romish doctrine respectively. What it all boils down to is this: Is Jesus capable of saving His people from their sins? The Protestant says yes: hence, the meaning of salvation by "faith alone" i.e. that faith which is borne out by works (James 2). The Papist says no, and we must have saints and their merits to interpose. Would you not agree?
