Matthew,
I strongly agrees with your view. Mother of Mercy whom we intercede and prayed for us to our heavenly Father, is there in your hours of needs and comfort. Saints even the past Saints is considered as alive in Catholics' view as a person escape death and recieves eternal life by accepting Jesus as his/her savior. So the Saints are still around and it is right to intercede with them to pray for us. The patron saints and Angels too! Holy Communion of Saints. Wonderful gift from God!

Yours blessings,

Emmanuel
