Well for a start, it wasn't written in English.
There are no exact equivalent words from Hebrew or Greek to English some times.
I guess you know that when you read the English Bible, by some mystical way.......Is it ?
You will not know it unless you read some 'helps' to understand the context....These helps are written by researches/theologians..etc..
For exmaple: You probably know the Jesus' saying about how difficult it is for a rich man to be saved, He said it is like a camel trying to go through a needle eye...
What needle are they talking about ??? It is definitely not the needle you one uses in sewing..... The Gate at the Entry to the city had a rather small archway, which used to be called the needle... (Now I guess you would have known that when you read the Bible plainly.......)
Now, it does make a difference in the way you interpret... Without this background knowledge you would almost say 'it is IMPOSSIBLE' for a rich man to be saved.... But with this knowledge on context you will know that it is still POSSIBLE but DIFFICULT for a rich man to be saved....
