Hi Mat Scripturally, visions is not a "gift" per se. There is a gift called "Word of Knowledge" where God can reveal something that cannot normally be known by the 5 human senses. Now visions are another thing. They come to whom God chooses when he chooses. But a true vision from God must meet several requirements. 1. The content or message must not contradict or negate Scripture. It may "add to" but never contradict. For example: Some one gets a vision that tells him/her to bomb an abortion clinic. This vision may be real but it is not from God. Another example is from the history of the Mormon Church. Supposedly Joseph Smith had visions from the angle Moroni. What came out of these visions was the Book of Mormon and the Mormon Church. Just a cursory reading of the Book of Mormon will show the contradictions to Scripture in both doctrine and practice. 2. The vision must come to edification or profit to the individual or the body of Christ (the Church). God is not the author of confusion. If the vision is troubling or confusing it is probably not a true vision. Something else is going on. 3. The vision must never be drug incuded as in the practice of some cultures and religions. Nuff said here. Mat, visions are rare phenomena and must be considered very very carefuly. I suggest you reference the Scriptures and do word searches on visions and dreams. Be careful of New Age thinking on visions and supernatural phenomena that may lead to much misunderstanding and error. I hope this has been helpful. Bill |
