Dear Bill, This is just part of my research: As we have seen, the Bible was originally written for the most part in two languages, the Old Testament in Hebrew with a few passages in Aramaic, and of the New Testament in Greek. The questions naturally arises, do any of the original manuscripts of the Bible still exist? The answer is No. The original manuscripts were on papyrus and other perishable materials and have long since disappeared. We do have however, ancient copies made from the originals, and more are constantly coming to light. For instance, in 1947 a scroll of the Book of Isaiah was discovered in a salt cave near the Dead Sea, preserved by a wrapping covered with pitch. Experts have assigned this manuscript to the First Century B.C., which makes it far the oldest of the Hebrew manuscripts of a book of the Bible. On comparing it with our own accepted Bible text no significant differences were found. P/S: I will finish the another interesting question into what languages the Bible was first translated in a few days time! May the Lord bless you richly. Veni Sancte Spiritus, Emmanuel |
