Dear Bill, It is this Feast which the Lord seem to have in mind when he told Moses that Pharaoh was to let the people go, so that they could "hold a Feast to Me in the wilderness" (Exodus 5:1, 10:9). This particular Feast day is known by different names, each of which set forth some facet of truth, which will be interpreted as the study proceeds, It was called: 1.The Feast of Harvest- Exodus 23:16 2.Thw Feast of Weeks-Exodus 34:22 ; Deuteronomy 16:10. 3.The Day of Firstfruits-Numbers 28:26 ; Exodus 34:22 4.The Feast of Weeks of the Firstfruits of Wheat Harvest- Exodus 34:22 5.The Feast of of Pentecost, in the NT. Pentecost being the translation of the Greek word for "fifty- Acts 2:1,20:16 ; 1 Corinthians 16:8. As mentioned, it will be seen by thses various titles for the Feast that it actually involved a particular 24 hour day, as well as a period of time. Thus it is the day of Pentecost, as well as the Feast of Weeks! Story in brief: The Exodus of Israel from Egypt took place under the Feast of Passover in the First month, the month of Abib or Nisan. After crossing the Red Sea and being led by the pillar of fire ther were brought to the foot of Mt. Sinai. Here at Sinai, they experienced the Feast of Pentecost, in the third month, which was Sivan. Here at Mt Sinai the Lord spoke to Moses to tell Israel to sanctify themselves against the 3rd day. Then Moses went up again to the mount on this day and it was on this day that the Lord wrote The 10 Commandments on tables of stone. In all we have 50 days, which maybe seen as follows: 1st month, Abib or Nisan--15 days 2nd month, Zif------------30 days 3rd month, Sivan----------4 days _________________________________ 49 days or 7 weeks(7x7=49) Then we come to the next day which was the 50th day when the Lord wrote with his fingers The Ten Commandments. Hence the Jews today look upon the Feast of Pentecost as the celebration or the commemoration ofthe giving of the Law. P/S: I will gather more info for you on the Two Leavened Wave Loaves on my next reply, hope that this helps you a little, and I am slowly revealing to you the beauty of God's plan in redeeming us! God bless you, Emmanuel |
