Dear Emmanuel, ___________________________________________________________ "You still don't get what I mean? That verse is so obvious. You cannot stick everything to NT as the final decision!" ___________________________________________________________ I think I understand where you are comming from. But I am not absolutey sure. Are you proposing that a Levitival Priesthood still exists in today the NT? Or possibly using the OT Levitical Priesthood as an alegory to support or defend the RC position on priests ? I am still not sure what you are attempting to say or what your point is. Maybe we can agree that the NT shoud be understood in light of the OT. However, what is directly applicable from the OT Law to the Christian since Pentecost must be discerned. Rom 15:3-4 (KJV) 3. For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me. 4. For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. Here in Romans 15:4 the KJV woukd seem to indicate that the OT is "for our learning" and not directly aplicable. However a closer look at this verse sheds more light. The word for "learning" here is the Greek "didaskalian." This is the same word translated "doctrine" in other places in the Bible. ( Mat 15:9, Mar 7:7, Eph 4:4, Col 2:22, 1Tim 1:10,4:1,4:13,5:17,6:1,6:3, 2 Tim 3:10,3:16,4:10 ..etc) Again in 2 Tim 3:16-17 (KJV) 16. All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:" 17: "That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works." So then, ALL SCRIPTURE is profitable for doctrine .... Not just the verses we choose to beleive to support our own Church or doctines. We must be able to discern from ALL SCRIPTURE what is directly aplicable today. Not just from OT or NT. Not with Sola Scriptura, not with tradition not with opinions. Emmanuel, I understand and respect your RC roots and beliefs. I have never critisized you for that not do I intend to now. I know you have a heart for God. I would exhort you though, to try to understand that many here (or anywhere) will not accept Sola Scriptura, RC tradition or opinions, and strictly RC interpretation as any authority on doctrine. I hope you understand where I am comming from. Your Brother in Christ, Bill Roth |
