Friend,
I thought when you asked about my quote you were asking where I got the categorisation of the convergence movement as "4th Wave". While I cant remember the reference for calling it as "4th Wave", it does not really matter. It is merely a categorisation that theologians regularly make depending on their theological orientations etc. This is a very subjective matter eg Billy Graham can be listed as evangelical or liberal (!) depending on which end of the theological spectrum one stands. So discovering the source will not shield anyone from error....It merely informs the reader of the biases or pre-judgements the theologian has made. There is no prize guessing the position of the theologian (whoever the person might have been) in categorising the 'convergence movement' as the '4th wave'.
I am prepared to say that I too see it as a "4th Wave". This is not to say that I fully endorse it (or I will already be a member of CEC or CEEC!) just as believing that there were 3 other previous 'waves' does not make me necessarily someone who flows with any one of them.....It does not limit God's work to only those 3 "waves"....not say that each succeeding 'wave' is better than the earlier version. There will always be (and as I have seen on these two Forums of Antioch.com) those who will not believe or accept the 'charismatic' theologies. Most would be either a particular group of conservative evangelicals or fundamentalists (again, categorisation made by theologians). Needless to say, the position of these people will be to dismiss, caution against or ridicule these 'waves'. But there are those among us who genuinely believe that God is at work through these "waves"- even though some of these 'waves' have quite a bit of human error and sin linked with them....(which movement of God isnt affected by human sin and limitations....?) My only prayer is that we are willing to respect fellow Christians of equally strong faith and commitment to the Lord as we dialogue over the internet. God bless. THE PILGRIM
