Just read Romans 14 the other day and thought this can be a help to understand what modern day christians should or should not eat.
Paul was addressing the issue concerning the different faith christians in his days had towards food. Some have faith to eat all things, some to eat only vegetables (most probably referring to the time before God gave the command to Noah in Gen 9:3. Note there was no mention of unclean or clean food at that time, but of course though killing of animals is allowed for food, killing of fellow men carries the death penalty till today) while others follow the Judaic food laws still. In verse 14 of Rom 14, Paul stated that he was convinced in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself. In the Gospel of Mark, 7:19 says that all foods were declared clean by the Lord Himself. Thus i believe we can safely says that we can eat anything without resorting to the Old Testament laws on food. However we should still take precautions in avoiding certain types of food for health reasons eg (food chain contaimination by toxins). There is another issue concerning food that should not be eaten by christians. Those food that are first offered to the idols, which is prevalent in our Asian culture. A further study of I Cor 8, 10 and Revelation 2 will address this issue more properly.
