Hi Eng Poh, Like any other Levitical Law found in Leviticus. There is a strict code to follow. For them, it is not about different levels of faith, but all to abide by that standard for it is the standard set by God, for He is holy. If I may paraphrase what is written in the OT: "Those foreigners/aliens who sojourn/stays with you are to abide by these laws as well." Hence, in so saying, we are to eat in accordance to the standards as laid out by God, through Moses, for we are Gentiles/foreigners/aliens. This is the stand by most Messianic Jews. Personally, I do not hold on to this opinion, as like Bill Roth, I believe that I am living under the new covenant. Christ, whose blood was poured out for many. And this covenant is what we partake every Holy Communion. Because of this new covenant, it supersedes all other covenants made in the past to the Israelites, for Christ is our Passover Lamb, the one who takes away the sins of the world. Though I do agree with most of your views on the issues of food that is taken, would eventually be passed out. Hence it does not corrupt the inner man. Yet, it can be easily challenged by those who hold fast to the food laws, as they have a personal opinion that Paul was not remarking that we should do away with God's commandment to hold fast to the food laws as laid out in Leviticus. (I have an earlier thread which gives the exact place where this food laws apply to) Ultimately, I thank you all, and would love to hear more about your opinions on these, for it is a doctrinal issue which is hard to level with. God bless all of you, royston |
