Wahshing, There are two main kinds of prophecies that are quite commonly used in churches. Which kind are you referring to? The exhortative prophecies are generally encouraging; sometimes mildly rebuking, or gently advising. The other is predictive, the kind that the prophets of O.T. declared resoundingly, "Thus says the Lord". These are usually warnings or forthcoming judgments of God. Exhortative prophecies are commonly practiced among the charismatic churches in Singapore. They are quite harmless, but often appropriate to some members of the congregation. The predictive type, especially when they involve warnings of pending calamitic judgments supposedly from God could be dangerous, as they could cause panic. We should be very careful when encountering such prophecies, and diligently discern the spirit of the prophecy; whether it is of God or the enemy. Of late there has been a spate of such predictive prophecies going around Singapore. Has anyone heard of any such prophecies? Btancy. |
