Hi True Light and Frankie, I have been reading your threads with intrigue. And was waiting for you all to discover the truths from the Word itself. As I am concerned that this issue of the 2 witnesses might become a little draggy, may I suggest that such hypothesis like there are Moses and Elijah be kept to a minimum. Would it be helpful to predict the future when we do not know what is tomorrow like? As for what went on with the conversation of Moses and Elijah. Most evangelical writers would just comment that they had to appear before Christ, because Christ is the person who will fulfil the Law (Moses' appearance before Christ), and Christ is also the one as predicted by the Prophets (Elijah's appearance before Christ). Hence, the culmination of the Prophecies and the Law. Another dimension is probably, Christ being the Lord of Life and Death. Moses died in the desert, while Elijah rose to the heavens in a chariot of cloud, alive. What is probably more significant in this episode is the appearance of the cloud, and God spoke the very sentence as how He spoke when Christ was baptised by John the Baptist. "This is my beloved Son, whom I am well-pleased. LISTEN TO HIM" LISTEN TO HIM is bold because these are the only words not found at the Baptism by John the Baptist on Christ. Yet, it might be the most significant aspect to this passage. So the main agenda here is more towards guiding Christ's 3 disciples: Peter, James, John, to listen to Christ. Much was mentioned in that context of Christ and His 3 disciple than the appearance of Moses and Elijah (the appearance of Moses and Elijah can be likened to a transient state as compared to the steady state of Christ and His 3 disciples). Hence, emphasis here should not rest on Elijah and Moses but the reactions generated by the 3 disciples and its outcome. Pray this would help clarify Moses and Elijah issue, royston |
