and losing one of your eternal crowns..."

Dear Royston,
It is not cessationists who limit what God can do today. That would be a slanted argument used by charismatics. It is God Himself who has chosen to withdraw the sign gifts. We are merely recognising that in His overall plan. Think it this way if you like: if God is sovereign and He is, do you think any mortal's belief in cessationism can stop Him from still giving the gift of healing to someone? Charismatics like to use the argument of the lack of faith. Some claim that we don't experience the sign gifts because we have lost faith in sign gifts. It then becomes a chicken and egg thing. Do we lack faith because we don't see the sign gifts or are we sceptical because we don't see the sign gifts? Which is the cause and which is the effect? Let us grant the charismatic his argument. So the lack of faith explains the absence of the sign gifts among cessationists but what about among charismatics? Do we see the sign gifts in operation? Please don't confuse modern day faith healers chichaneries with biblical apostolic exercise of sign gifts. As I said before, charismatics must find modern day examples of the exercise of sign gifts that fit biblical description of sign gifts. Perhaps you can also consider this: what difference does it make if we say that people are healed as a result of God answering prayer, it has nothing to do with any gift of healing? Let's apply this to Kathryn Kuhlman. Someone said that she had a big heart and that she died of heart failure because her heart expanded out of love for the sick. That's interesting, poetic but not medically sound. Anyway, when Kuhlman prayed for healing, what difference does it make if we say that God sometimes answered Kuhlman's prayer and healed the person and sometimes God chose not to answer that prayer for His own greater reason; and to say that the person was healed as a result of Kuhlman's exercise of her gift of healing? Regards, Christopher
