Joe, got your point in para 3 in “Sad: You are missing my point!”. I noted that you made a good point in your first statement in para 1 “Are you ready?” and did not intend to comment on it myself then.

But one thing I was pointing out is that the use of Jn 2:19,20 is a poor use of Scriptures to try and dismiss Grace_Messenger’s “literal interpretation” as naïve.

Back to your point:

“My point is prophecy, which involves especially dream and vision, can be interpreted figuratively when literal interpretation does not make sense. Otherwise, John didn’t need the angel in Rev 17 to explain to him if he could understand the vision literally.”

Let me say that the term “literal interpretation” is a term I would rather avoid using because it is misleading. People who believe that the Bible should be interpreted “literally” recognise that there is figurative language use in the Bible. So if you don’t get this point right you may think that they are really that naïve. But really what is important I believe is to recognise that the Word of God is complete and to try and understand Scriptures using Scriptures in context and leave nothing to our vain imaginations.

As you pointed out the angel did some explanation to John regarding who the “woman” he saw was. It was recorded in the Bible for us and what we should do is to take it from there to understand more about Rev 17,18. The “woman” is actually “that great city” we were told. The next question is does the Scripture tells us what “that great city” refers to? Grace_Messenger quoted from Scriptures to say it refers to “that great city Babylon”. The next question is: Is the Bible using “Babylon” in a figurative sense? My understanding is that you think it is and Great_Messenger think it is not. And that you have rested your case and I shall respect that and comment no more.

Regards
