I read an article recently on the state of how people dress to
churches this days. Come to think of it , many of us will not bat an eyelid, we seem to be immune to much in this times.
" There was a time when Christians dressed modestly and they could be easily separated from sluts and prostitutes, but not any more. Now days Christians have so greatly compromised with the world that they dress just like the world. But that is not the worst part, the worst part is when women start exposing themselves in church! Many women profess to be Christians but wear short skirts and short-shorts in church services! It is bad enough that a Christian man must avert his eyes while he's at the mall, but when he must avert his eye while in church SOMETHING IS WRONG, and it is not the man who is in the wrong. It is the bare naked legs of the worldly Christian women. But it's even worse than just Christian women dressing like sluts, worse because it's happening not just in liberal churches but in Charismatic and Pentecostal churches! Even men are wearing shorts in some church services now. The Bible clearly commands Christian women to dress modestly (1 Tim. 2:9), not wear lots of jewelry or make-up and or have short hair (1 Cor. 11:6, 15; 1Tim. 2:9; 1 Peter 3:3). So why are they doing all these things? Because the churches have compromised with the world. Little by little the church has relaxed its standards, and has for the most part stopped preaching against immodest dress because they do not want to make the women mad or be accused of legalism. Holiness is not legalism any more than not committing adultery is legalism, unless you are not a Christian. For a non Christian to dress modestly because they are following rules, is legalism. For a Christian to dress modestly is following the commands of God. You cannot get to heaven by keeping rules by themselves, but even if you have faith in Christ you cannot get to heaven if you do not keep the rules (especially the 10 commandments). Churches should not be extremely narrow and demanding regarding dress but they should and must draw the line somewhere. The problem is the line between modest dress and immodest dress was crossed a long time ago, and at the present time they have removed the line completely and allow any kind of dress that is not total nudity (yet).** The only solution to the problem is to return to the commands of the Bible and to modest dress. Some of this immodest dress includes clothes that are very tight so that the very shape of the breasts are revealed! Even school girls are allowed to dress immodestly. No wonder there is so much fornication and adultery within Christianity today. It's time for Christians to repent and return to modest dress. But, just what is modest dress? What should be acceptable or not acceptable? Christians should not need to be told what they can wear or not wear, but like teenagers who lack parental guidance, they have proven by their actions that they need to be told what they should wear or not wear. As a Christian man who does not like having to divert my eyes in church, the following guidelines for dress during a church service will make many Christian men very releaved: Dresses should be long enough to reach the bottom of the knee when sitting down; tops should not be tank tops or any other skin tight top that reveals the shape of the breasts, and no cleavage allowed! Shorts should not be worn in a church service, period. Outside of church, women should wear dresses that reach the knee while standing up; shorts should reach mid thy and not be skin tight; tops should not be tight enough to reveal the shape of the breasts; and no cleavage. I have heard it said many times that the problem is not with the women, but with the men; they should not be lusting after the women. You may as well condemn the Bible because the Bible commands women to dress modestly, and to not present themselves as objects of lust, and it does so because God knows the truth. Christian men are human flesh the same as any other men and as long as we are in this unregenerated flesh we are going to be subject to temptations of the flesh. Christian men do not look at pornography and say, "I was looking but I was not lusting." As a man who has been addicted to pornography, I know what lust is; just to look upon bare naked flesh of an attractive woman will inflame lust within a man's body. He does not cause the lustful desire to take hold of him, it is part of his fallen human nature; it is not a conscious descision. To blame men by saying they should not be lusting is like blaming a baby for crying. The Bible says to shun the very appearance of evil. Christian men should not look upon the bare naked flesh of women, even if it is Christian women during a church service! Therefore, it is the responsibility of the women to not expose themselves the way they are doing, and it is the responsibility of the preachers to preach the truth! Women are not only causing the men to sin, but in doing so they too are sinning. It is wrong, stop it! As for short hair and painted faces, anyone care to comment. Does this go against the Bible (extremely short hair on a woman makes her look hiddeous and often very unattractive). It may not be a sin, but the Bible says it is a shame for a woman to have short hair, therefore it is! The problem with the church today is they have compromised with the world and do not want to live according to the Bible. "
