Enjoy... But remember

and losing one of your eternal crowns..."

It was a cultural setting which brought about Paul's writings on this issue. Women then were not educated and many unbelievers were also worshipping Aphrodites, the fertility goddess. Hence the issue of physical appearance comes into play here, where virgin girls who worship fertility goddess, would sit outside temple of Aphrodites, to give up their virginity to any male worshipper who fancies them physically. This was an indication of their service and worship to Aphrodites. Only when they had lost their virginity, would they be considered as suitable candidates for a wife in Corinth. Part of their dressing then, was braided hair with earrings. This was why Paul described to Corinthian about the dressing of women in church to avoid. Just to whet your appetite, in order for you to dig into history on your own. Good hunting, for the Kingdom of God is like a treasure in the field, when once found, this man sold all he had, in order to buy this plot of field, just for the treasure. Therefore, likewise, go hunt for that buried treasure and you will gain a clearer understanding about the women's role in ministry. Another word of encouragement is also found in Jer 29:11-14. Do also read up on Phil 4:1-3: you will realise that there is indeed a role where women do play in the church. As well as in Acts 16:14, about Lydia. Off-hand I am aware of more accounts but cannot recall currently. So this is all I can offer you. May God increase in your understanding, in order to assist others to grow in wisdom, regarding issues about the role of women in God's ministry. royston |
