"Actually you are right. Yours is the Gospel of historical christianity. But you have to appreciate that those who have been brought up under the Pentecostal/Charismatic Faith will not be able to see this and so you have to make allowance for them. It is not easy for people to change and can take many years." Thanks for your encouragement and advice on where my Gospel stand is. I did not realise that Pentacostals/Charismatic Faith's Gospel is different from ours. I thought that we are on the same page, is it not? After all, Calvinism, Arminianism and Word of Faith have all emphasised the complete works of God and that salvation is already settled for the believers. Is it not? Therefore, what then constitutes Modern Christianity? The reason why I ask this is because I find people like Ed Silvoso, Franklin Jenkins, Brian Houston preaching messages similar to that of Word of Faith or Arminianism. Why then would the Pentacostals still not be able to be on the same page with us? "One thing to notice is that people in historical churches don't worry about loosing their salvation at all. What they worry about is how to please God." You are truly right about this fact. This is where Calvinism and Arminianism plus, Word of Faith are having split hairs over. The problem with denominational churches is the issue of how much good works is truly enough, even when we know our salvation is guaranteed. We spend so much time trying to work at our own sanctification and removing of our list of sins, thinking we are never good enough though we know that our salvation is settled. In that process, we fail instead to be a blessing to the nations and also a preacher of the Gospel. Which is why Methodism, Anglican, Presbyterian and Baptist churches are not really growing at a phenomenal rate when we compare ourselves to those of the Pentacostals/Charismatics. This I agree we need to learn from them. And I do agree that we have our strengths as well, that we know our salvation very well. Praise be to God. royston |
