Hi Ivan,
This is a very difficult subject and I wouldn't want to impose my views on anyone. First of all you have to sort out whether the "working out one's salvation" in the context of Phillipians is the eternal salvation or the conduct and behaviour of the believers. You have to read carefully and try and understand, as much as you can, the mind of Paul in the context. Frankly I don't think concepts like "co-operating with God" and being "in partnership with God" was in the mind of Jesus, Paul, John, etc. What they taught was to doing the will of God, walking worthy of your calling, etc here on earth. As for the Philipians 2:12-13, I am interested in the cause and effect. If we take works as the effect what is the cause? Free-will or God? If Christ needs our co-operation to save us eternally, then He is not a Saviour but only a religious teacher or something like that. It means He cannot effectively save His people form their sins without their help. It means inspite of my trusting Him there is still a possibility that I may be eternally lost. It means I have to contribute something towards my salvation. What happens if for some reason or other I can't meet this demand. It means that my faith and trust in Christ is useless unless I do my part. And if I am not able to do my part, Christ as my Lord and Saviour is powerless to save me. It really means "without me, He can do nothing" as far as my salvation is concerned. No, I believe the death and resurrection of Christ makes Him a Saviour who is able to effectively save His people inspite of themselves and all their sins. This is the Gospel and that is why it is Good News i.e. Christ died for our sins and sin has no more dominion over us. Check it out in Romans. Note, some of these concepts are difficult and I don't expect many people in this generation to accept them. But it was commonly known to christians in ages past. God Bless you too.
