Yes, my brother,

You are right that it only occurred from 19th Century onwards. When I am referring to many Methodists. I am referring to our current generation of Methodists, because of this doctrine of needing to "work out our salvation with fear and trembling".

So before 19th Century, as commented by Interested, all denominational churches knew where their salvation is anchored upon, and they have served God with a better understanding than the current ones.

Maybe that is why, God had to raise people like John Sung, Watchman Nee , Selwyn Hughes and a host of other Evangelicals to speak of the Word of truth to this current generation who has been "poisoned" by needing to "work out salvation with fear and trembling", when they fail to understand that God is already at work in us, through the Holy Spirit, so we are never working out our salvation on our own.

In God's Hope we trust,
royston
