Hi Royston,

Messages that posted here were also conveyed to the churches concerned and I got one reply as below from FCBC. I don't just discuss for the sake of discussion. As a matter of facts, I think we should be watchful in these last days.

Joe

Dear Samuel,

Thanks for your reply. I tried to have an open-mind to understand the sober motive behind Ps Lawrence Khong even though I have not been under his shepherd staff. I don't doubt his heart for the lost souls. In fact, when I first heard of his bold venture last year through "From Illusion to Reality", I was thinking he would pay a high price on his "saving soul at all costs". However, when I recall back I had a dream of magic show in a Christian crusade about 5 years ago, I can't help myself to entertain such an innovative idea. Because in that dream the Lord warned me to dissociate myself from it. We all wanted badly to see the whole nation and even the whole world to be saved. But what matters most is not our works, but our walks with the Lord. The Spirit reveals to me that it is because in the absence of signs and wonders that men began to use methods to reach out. I still can't reconcile myself with Illusion to win soul and my concerns are stated in another posting in Antioch entitled Illusion -- in relation to Magic Of Love.

Truly yours,
Joe

Dear Joe,

Please accept my apologies for the delay in replying.

I appreciate your concern and your firm conviction on magic (ie. the sorcery and witchcraft type). I am in full agreement with you that no Christian should engage any such divination acts. .

Firstly, I want to assure you that all the illusions (including the levitations, etc.) that Ps Lawrence Khong and Priscilla do in the Magic of Love are purely man-made, with no supernatural force. These acts are accomplished through sleight of hand and specially-built apparatus. If you are keen to find out more on how magicians do their acts, you could try to pick up the series of VCDs called "Magic's Greatest Secrets Revealed" where a masked magician reveals how many of these tricks are performed, with absolutely no use of the dark side.

Secondly, we believe that "entertainment" is a good means to share Christ. According to Charles Finney, "the theatres are full because the world lies well... the sanctuaries (of God) are empty because the church tells the truth poorly." The people are listening to the voice of the world so much that it has coloured our perceptions as well as our attitudes. The church needs to be a light in this arena. We live in a sight-and-sound generation and we must use relevant methods to reach out to this generation but without diluting or compromising the absolute truth of the Gospel.

Specifically on the issue of magic, please go to our website http://www.fcbc.org.sg/resources3.htm where you can read an article in the section "Understanding Magic in a Chrisitian context". You would be able to understand the difference between divination and sorcery and illusions for entertainment.

I hope I have been able to clarify some of your doubts. But please understand that Ps Khong's heart is always for the prebelievers to have an opportunity to experience the magic of God's love.

At the end of this e-mail, you may still hold to your conviction but I hope that you could be open too to have a hearing on our stand.

Do feel free to contact me if you need any further clarification. God bless you.

Yours sincerely,
