I was just wondering about the resurrection, remember when Jesus answered the Sadducees in Matthew 22:23-33, that at the resurrection, people will neither marry nor will be given in marriage.
Is it possible to have an intimate (non-sexual) relationship approximating that closeness felt between a husband and a wife without marriage? I mean let’s say I have a wife whom I am close to but she passed away. After a long period of grief, I began to love again and remarry another girl. (It’s no sin I hope –till death do us part…). At the resurrection, I am reunited with both ex-wives, both whom I am close to and will probably be continuing to develop close relationships. How intimate? As intimate as I would behave in the Resurrection towards a place with no marriages? As intimate as a very close blood sister who one would have develop care and concern over the years ? Basically I am trying to reconcile the fact that there are no marriages in Heaven but there would definitely still be relationships and how would that translate to our behaviour on this present Earth? Or is it on Earth and in this present life, we are under a different system/covenant i.e. Institution of Marriage and you can only develop close emotional intimacy with a wife whereas at the Resurrection, since there are no marriage, you can develop emotional intimacy with everyone. Slightly confused about man and woman becoming one flesh and yet no marriages in heaven. Everyone yearns for intimacy and the ultimate intimacy is with God. However, it is not good that man be alone and thus woman was brought in ? It is possible to have close platonic friendship with the opposite sex or are we bluffing ourselves that ultimately it will lead to more than just friendship? Maybe at resurrection we are no longer sexual beings.
