Have you seen any movies produced locally by Touch Entertainment? The latest short movie (in Mandrin) titled "Not Too Late!" will premere tonight at TCT Auditorium at 7:30pm. Some of the cast are familiar faces - Zhu Houren, Chunyu Shan Shan and Samantha Toh. Story is about the lives of a group of threatre performers on and off stage and how a tragedy that happened on stage changed their views on life. Shot locally within a week and at low budget, it is a pretty good movie.
Do you know that lately there is a new 3 hour epic movie by a renowned Indian director that had won some famous award in Cannes will be release today over the threatres in Singapore? I think the name of the movie is Asoka. It tells about a prince that won a kingdom by deception and murder, but turn to Buddisim after the most violent war he fought and won. It is a high end movie that has a hollywood touch and I believe it has the potential to win an Oscar next year in States for best foreign movie. Comparing the two productions, we can see the gap between a home grown movie compared to that of one made by Bollywood. Movie making was once an industry that Singapore tried to enter but failed. However, the local broadcasting is making a name for itself in the region. Almost 80% of the families in Singapore watch the tele everyday for one reason or another. We see a whole range of movies from sobby soap operas to ranchy sex to deceptive witchcraft being aired to millions of homes a day. Among these shows are subtle teachings of Buddism, Satanism and New Age being intoxicating our younger generation of viewers. Not to mention the yet to release "Harry Potter Movie" that will sweep through this land coming next month during the school holidays. We are up against a barrage of heavy weights to win over viewers and hopefully teach them about alternative teachings as they enjoy the movies. Being a Christian, we are entrusted with the mission to go to the ends of the world to preach the good news. If Buddists could spend millions in donation to movie making just to feature their shrine and teaching, why can't the Christians too produce wholesome movies to preach the Gospel? We talk about rebuilding the temple. But the New Testament acknowledges that the Holy Spirit now resides in the heart of the believer, rather than behind the curtain of a physical temple? Didn't God tore the curtain before the entrance to the Holy of Holies? Isn't it true that in the last days, His Spirit will be pour forth towards the masses? It is important that we provide an alternative to the Christians in these times, as the prince of the air is working as hard to draw us away from the knowledge of the Word. Though the effort of Touch Entertainment is nothing compared to the mega weights in Hollywood, at least the seed is planted and I believe it would start something for us to work on.
