No alternatives! We are not only to preach the unadulterated Word of God, but also not to compromise the method of preaching. The gospel of Jesus Christ does not need a crutch to be presented to the world. We preach the Word not relying on human wisdom but in words that taught by the Spirit, so that our faith might not rest on men's wisdom, but on God's power. The Church of Jesus Christ has to show forth her difference to the world, not identifying herself with it. The Church is for the glory of God to go forth to the world, not bringing in the entertainment of the world. When Charles Finney said, "the theatres are full because the world lies well... the sanctuaries (of God) are empty because the church tells the truth poorly", he did not mean we are to turn the sanctuaries into theatres. His words are for us to ponder what went wrong? We would know the cause if we really down on our knees. |
