Hi Royston, Royston: An advice, when we study theological views: Try to avoid getting "locked" within a certain theological stand, as such a stand is after all man-made. What we should focus on is, what is God's stand on this. LBS: I agree with you Royston that we must always focus on what God really said. In fact, for this reason, I have never in my posts in this forum refer to any authority except the Scriptures. I don’t focus on who is this person or that person who says this or that. In fact, I am very perplexed when you said the following to me: “it is more important to adhere to what your church teaches you , if you really wish to find out more on Jn 15:1-6. just spend about 3 hours reading Bruce Wilkinson's Secrets of the Vine Honestly, I am not the only person who adheres to what Bruce has to teach the Church from Jn 15. Many who have read his second book are agreeable with what he has to say” I am not trying to be combative or fault-finding: but what I hear you as saying is that you believe that your understanding of Jn 15:1-8 is correct because you “adhere to what Bruce has to teach the Church”and you believe Bruce Wilkinson is correct because many other people also agree with him. If I need to read a whole book and explore what someone “exegetically expounded in detail” before being able to know what God really says in one verse, something must be very wrong – and this is not my opinion. According to God who authors the Scriptures: "The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple" Ps 119:130 |
