The problem lies with your equation: Living Faith = Faith + Works of Obedience = Righteousness What the rest of us are really saying is: Faith in Jesus Christ's finished Works ----> Righteousness in Jesus Christ ----> Works of Obedience ----> leads to So far, while I have followed TL's arguments, the reason why I am constantly trying to check with TL on his concurrence of Ivan's equation, is because, TL, your opinions so far is closer to the rest of ours....because you recognise that faith in Christ Jesus, hence it leads to works of obedience. But TL, you fail to understand that righteousness has been accorded to you, once you believe in Christ Jesus' completed works. James was not arguing that righteousness is not accorded to us, if we have no deeds to show for. Righteousness in Christ Jesus is given by God, when we believe in Him. And since we are righteous in Christ, we need to understand our roles on earth, our calling by God, His plan for the world. Only then, through our works of obedience, we might glorify Christ Jesus our Lord and Saviour and draw all men unto Him. Hence, by this reason, Paul and James are in agreement, and not what Ivan is suggesting. Wrong application of agreement between Paul and James as given by Ivan. Lastly, Works of Obedience is a spring board from the true understanding of what Christ has done for us, hence it applies to what David says in Psalms 119:16, 47, 70. |
