Re: Question how to serve in a church where your leaders don't trust and support you? (Keith)

I am sorry, but based on my long years of experience with Pentecostals, Charismatics, Methodists, Anglicans, etc I would tend to agree with the Presbyterian Church's stand. What has happened in those churches which opened their doors to some of these modern brands of christianity is not a very happy fellowship.

Oh, yes they get large church growth and some other benefits. But alas the truth of the matter is that these churches are really divided bodies. There are usually two camps in many of these churches and many traditionalists in these churches now feel just like the way you feel in the Presbyterian Church. Most of them have probably just given up and resigned themselves to it. For example there is not much chance for traditionalists to go into the ministry in such churches because they want people who can "minister in the spirit" whatever that is suppose to mean. This is what has happened to the churches with a majority Charismatic leadership.

For some reason these people feel they are superior to those who are traditionalist and they must impose their standards on them. Given their extreme Arminian doctrines people like me can understand why they feel so superior. I leave them alone and hence I don't have problems. But I know there are people who feel the tension in some of these churches.

I don't believe you can blame the Prebysterian Church because if you are in an Assembly of God Church and if you show the slightest inclination towards Calvinism you are finished. I don't think you will be allowed to serve in any capacity. So it is the same old story everywhere.

If you are throughly convinced of your Charismatic doctrines I think the only sensible thing to do is to join a Pentecostal or Charismatic church.

It is not right to cause divisions in churches.
