Right, this is a serious enough matter to comment on. I have been involved in this business of "self-destruction" for a long time and I now consider it to be part of the Modern Gospel. The main problem is that it can lead, in some people, to serious psychological problems and can cause one to end up as a zombie. Once you start tempering with the "self" you cannot function properly in this life because it destroys your self-confidence among other things. What the Scriptures is talking about is the "mortification of the flesh" and "walking in the Spirit" (Romans 8) and not about "self destruction". If one follows the Scriptures it is healthy and causes one to have joy and peace but the Modren Gospel is destructive and can affect one's intelligence, self-confidence and personality. Once you are into it, it is very difficult to get out of it, unless you know the tricks of the trade. "Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my Gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery which was kept secret since the world began but now has been made manifest, and by the prophetic Scriptures has been made known to all nations, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, for the obedience to the faith - to God, alone wise, be glory, through Jesus Christ forever. Amen." St Paul. So I think I better stick to the Old Gospel. |
