Note Eternal Security = Misrepresentation of God's Grace = License to Sin?

Forum: Messageboard
Date: 2001, Oct 28
From: Keith poetkeith

some of us believe in eternity security and see it as prime motivation/reason for us to live holy lives. others see it as a dangerous concept that can cause people to lead licentious lifestyle.

some of us esteem Grace supremely, and understand it to be a fulfilment of God's Law. others see Grace merely as the flip side of the Law, and believe that Grace must be always be balanced by the Law.

well, i guess my Father's house is big enough to accomodate all kinds of sons and daugthers who see things differently from all sorts of angles.

i believe how and what we understand as truths from the Word ultimately boils down to how, and who we see our Father as.

for me, i always try to see me Father through the Cross. and i see Him as Love, more than anything else.

do i risk missing out on His Justice and Holiness? i don't think so. can i possibly fail to see My Father's hatred of sin when i look to Cross and see the Punishment that had fallen on my Lord Jesus?

will i be tempted abuse God's Grace and take His love for granted? i should think not, i guess, if i fix my eyes unto the Cross and understand that Grace is free but not cheap. in fact, Grace is priceless.

will i take advantage of the total freedom and eternal security that i now enjoy and run off to lead a licentious life that is full of sins? by no means!

unless i'm stupid enough to think that my actions do not have consequences, and am deceived enough to believe that sins will not have any impact on the qualility of my earthly life.

most of all, i don't believe i would enjoy a life of sin because when i look to the cross, i would be reminded of the kind of pain both the Father and the Son had to go through just to set me free from sin.

so personally, i think the Cross is more than adequate, our Lord Jesus Christ more than sufficient, and our Father's unconditional love and faithful affirmation is more than enough to make me love Him, walk in His will, and be fruitful for His glory.

i don't think i need my Father to also threaten me with His Law and His wrath i.e. making my life difficult and breaking up my relatonship with Him lest i take His love for granted and abuse His love.

i trust that His Spirit in me will help me love His Word, remember the Cross, focus on Jesus Christ, and hence walk in His righteousness.

i'm convinced that i'm seeing my Father correctly and i'm understanding His Grace accurately. but this doesn't mean that i think differing views held by other brothers and sisters in Christ are wrong. i don't believe i have to put down another person's view just to affirm my own.

as i've said earlier, i believe my Father's house is big enough to accomodate all kinds of sons and daugthers who see things differently from all sorts of angles.
