I had the opportunity to attend a few such "noisy" services in certain churches some years back.
At one service (attended mostly by youths), there was this young man in front of me who was hopping from the beginning to the end of the "high-powered" worship service. I mean hopping on the same spot. I think it was truly out of excitement, but he was clearly getting tired after 15 minutes of hopping but was perhaps too embarassed to stop half-way. Maybe after that he couldn't feel anything else. At one of this yearly event at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, the last line of a song was repeated ad infinitum (almost).... 10, 20 times or even more. The performers on stage (I wouldn't even call them "worship leaders") were clearly so engrossed that they couldn't stop singing the line. Of course, the crowd lapped it up. Eyes closed, hands stretched out, bodies swaying left and right....... At these two services (among others), the music was overpoweringly loud, with heavy bass and drumbeats. The SIS service even came with special lighting effects. Reminds me of an NKOTB concert I attended 10 years ago (has it been so long!?) I did not see any rolling or barking, only a crowd of highly enthusiastic people responding and cheering enthusiastically to the performers. The atmosphere at both services were certainly "electric", although I do not know what the crowd was electrified by - the music (professionally played), the yelling, or the Holy Spirit (or other things). Anyway, I'm avoiding such services right now (unless I have a clear reason for attending one and/or I have an easy escape route like a seat near to the exit), because it's so infuriating to see mind control being used on willing... victims. Btw before anyone accuses me of being "heartless" or "cannot let go for the Holy Spirit to take over," I do cry at services..... the last time at the Dom Cathedral at Cologne one month ago. No need to use loud thumpy music and swirling lights, or make me repeat the same line fifty times to do so.
