Then the Protestant church is in serious trouble. Originally it ought to be "One Church, One Faith, One Lord". But because of doctrines, courruption and idolatary, etc the church began to split. Actually there were divisions even is the first few centuries. The Chruch of Rome became the most powerful church because of Rome itself. The first major break up was around 1054 A.D. Then in the 16th century there was another breaking up froming what was the Protestant churches. Of these those who subscribed to the authority of the Holy Scriptures only were known as the Evangelicals. But in the 20th century something else began to happen. Originally the Evangelicals and these people were separate. But after the 1960s they began to penetrate Evangelical churches. By the 1990s they have made major inroads into almost every denomination and that is how it is now. All this has serious implications for the church. One major thing to consider is for these people the Word of God in not the written Scriptures but what they claim to be a direct revelation from the Holy Spirit to them. Once the ordinary church people believe this then there is no end to all sorts of new doctrines. Every preacher then becomes an authority and a speaker for God. Where do we draw the line? As far as I am concerned I refuse to be intimidated by these modern preachers and will continue to stick to only the written Scriptures. I don't care even if they can call fire down from heaven. There are plenty of warnings in the written Scriptures to beware of these preachers. Bye Bye: |
