That is to "To warn of false doctrines -To keep watch over all 'new' emerging theories to check with the scriptures regularly". But unfortunately the pastors have created a distrust for theologians in the minds of church people. The majority of pastors are not theologians. In science, just because a person holds degrees in science does not make him a scientist. It is the same for theologians. Another problem is that there are so many schools of theology and the average person will have a though job trying to find out which is closest to the Bible. But still the theologians know a lot more than the pastors and other church leaders. It is important to search out the good theologians. |
